Dr. Birgit Green, Director

Dr. Birgit Green serves as the Director of the Office of Academic Engagement. In this role, she promotes and supports faculty outreach, service learning, and community engaged scholarship. She assists colleges and departments in designing, assessing, and evaluating outreach and academic engagement and facilitates community partnerships, external funding opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Green served as Director of Engaged Research and Partnerships for the Office of the Vice President for Research where she facilitated sponsored research partnerships with two-year institutions. During her 15-year career as the Director of Outreach at Texas Tech's University College, she was responsible for administering non-credit personal enrichment, certificate, and continuing education classes as well as academic conferences, working closely with faculty and staff across the university, During that time, Birgit organized Texas Tech's first Community Engagement Conference, founded the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and served as Co-PI for the Texas Wind Energy Institute (now the 'National Wind Institute') and numerous other state and federal grants. Dr. Green serves as Texas Tech University's representative on the Board of Directors of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC), co-chair of the Executive Committee of the Commission on Innovation, Commercialization, and Economic Prosperity (CICEP) of the Association of Public and Land University's (APLU) and member of APLU's Council on Engagement. She is the past chair of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association's Outreach and Engagement Community of Practice. Birgit holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, a Master's in Higher Education, and a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Texas Tech University.
