February 18, 2021 |

Professor Doug Hamman, chair of the Teacher Education Department, along with associate professor Jason Lee, and visiting research scientist Michael A. Strong, received $310,000 from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to support the Teacher Incentive Allotment. The Teacher Incentive Allotment was passed in June 2019 "with a stated goal of a six-figure salary for teachers. TIA allotment funds help Texas school systems reward, retain, and recruit highly effective teachers," according to the program's website. Below, Hamman explains Texas Tech's involvement with the project.

Our project involves supporting TEA delivering the Teacher Incentive Allotment program. Texas Tech's role involves many aspects including data validation, gathering feedback about the project, and coordinating with external vendors to deliver the services needed to make this project a success. TTU has a strong commitment to teacher preparation we are very happy to be helping TEA recognize and reward the best teachers in Texas!
