2023 Majors & Minors Fair

Tuesday, October 31, 2023
11:00am - 2:00pm
Student Union Building Ballroom

The purpose of the Majors & Minors Fair is to allow students to engage in major exploration and to begin the process of changing their major. Students have the opportunity to talk with representatives from all of the colleges and various academic departments across campus and to start finding a major that fits with their personal and professional goals. Because one of the primary reasons for students' departure from an institution is difficulty in resolving their academic, personal, and professional goals (Tinto, 1993), helping students find a major they are satisfied with is an important component of student retention.

M&Ms

Program Design

The Majors & Minors Fair is designed to support the University's goal to retain students and reduce time to graduation by offering an opportunity for students to explore major choice options with faculty from various departments across the University.

The M&M Fair will include individual department tables hosted by faculty and academic advisors where information about the department and majors can be discussed. This format provides an informal way for students to engage with faculty members to discuss major choices and future career opportunities. The fair is designed to encourage exploration, and students are given a list of suggested questions to ask the college representatives they meet with in order to encourage higher level thinking about their motivations, goals, and purpose as it relates to their major.

The Majors & Minors Fair is hosted byStudent Engagement, with collaboration between academic colleges and departments and various academic support services.
