Spring 2018 Congressional Interns
Taylor Edwards of McKinney, Texas is an advertising major at Texas Tech. Taylor decided to pursue the internship because she wants to be able to apply her passion for politics in her career after she obtains her master's in political science. Taylor is interning in Congressman Jodey Arrington's office.
Emily Fouts from Sagerton, Texas majors in Agricultural Communications with minors in Agribusiness Marketing and Political Science. Emily plans to attend law school and eventually become involved in writing policy and advocating for agriculture. Emily is an intern for the United States Department of Agriculture.
Austin native, Tristan Green is a mechanical engineering major at Texas Tech. Tristan plans to serve as a Naval Officer in the Pacific either as a pilot or in intelligence, and eventually work in politics. Tristan is currently interning for the United States Secretary of State.
McKenzie Hammonds, from Fort Worth, Texas, is pursuing a degree in Human Science and a minor in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies. McKenzie wants to gain a better understanding of governmental processes before attending law school. McKenzie is currently serving in the Office of Congressman Lamar Smith.
Jonna Hewitt, from Robinson, Texas, majors in Communications with minors in Legal Studies and Political Science. After graduation, Jonna plans to attend law school and eventually pursue a career in the public sector that promotes quality education. Jonna is currently working in Congressman Henry Cuellar's office.
Jonathan King is a business management major minoring in political science from Fort Worth. Jonathan said his passion for servanthood and potential for growth and learning led him to pursue the internship. Jonathan plans to attend law school after graduating. He is serving in the Office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee.
Michael Nzoiwu, from Round Rock, Texas, is pursuing a degree in political science with a minor in legal studies at Texas Tech. After graduation, Michael plans on attending law school and focus on civil law or public administration. Michael is currently interning in the Office of Congressman Beto O'Rourke.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Alex Oscarson came to Texas Tech to pursue a degree in public relations and minors in political science and English. Alex has a passion for working on Capitol Hill and feels that this experience will better prepare her for the future. Alex is currently interning in the Office of Senator John Cornyn.
Illiana Silva is a general business major from Uvalde, Texas. Illiana has pursued the internship because she has always had an interest in politics, and this would help better her understanding of legal matters before attending law school. Illiana is currently working in the Office of Congressman Michael McCaul.
San Antonio native, Colton Teis is an international economics major here at Tech. After graduating, Colton intends plans on attending law school or getting his master's degree in economics, and eventually work full-time in D.C. Colton is currently working in the Office of Senator Ted Cruz.
Carolina Vargas from Katy, Texas is a political science major and obtaining minors in women's studies and Spanish. She is pursuing the internship because she is driven by human rights and international law. After graduation, Carolina plans on attending law school. Carolina is currently interning for the Environmental Protection Agency.
Jacob Walker is an political science major with a minor in international studies from Fort Worth, Texas. Jacob said he is pursuing the internship to learn the inner workings of our government. Upon graduation, Jacob plans to work in a congressional office or governmental agency full-time. Jacob is currently serving in the Office of Ways and Means.
