Collegiate Recovery Community Study Abroad

The Collegiate Recovery Community has the opportunity to offer students in recovery a summer study abroad experience in Prague, Czech Republic. Prague is rich in political, cultural, and economic history of which the students will have the opportunity to embrace. Incorporated into their experience is attendance to recovery meetings, not only in Prague, but also surrounding areas to allow exploration of the dynamics of recovery in a diverse cultural environment.

The Prague CRC study abroad program was initiated in 2014 to provide recovery students a supportive international experience. Community support is a significant factor for students in recovery, particularly in new environments, making traditional study abroad opportunities challenging. This study abroad incorporates a recovery community, as well as CRC staff members, to optimize the support provided to create a successful study abroad experience.

Academic Credit

Academic credit for CRC students during their study abroad is earned though a course on family dynamics of addiction and recovery. Specific reference to understanding the factors and influences of substance abuse/dependence, addiction, and the process of recovery in Central Europe is covered. Students may also earn additional academic credit in Accounting, Management, Personal Financial Planning, or an additional Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies course.

Excursions:

Two overnight excursions are incorporated into the CRC study abroad to provide an enhanced European experience for our students. These include:

  • Cesky Krumlov & Linz (Rafting & Concentration Camp tour)
  • Berlin & Dresden
