The Process of Paying

Texas Tech students can choose to participate in one of four different study abroad program types. Each program type has a different payment process.

Faculty-Led Programs & the TTU Center in Seville

Students participating in a faculty-led or TTU Center in Seville program are responsible for paying Texas Tech tuition and fees, the Study Abroad program fee, the Education Abroad fee ($200), and Study Abroad insurance, if not included in the program fee. Students who are committed to participating in a faculty-led or TTU Center in Seville program will be billed on the following timeline:

  • In the term before going abroad: a non-refundable deposit, the $200 Education Abroad fee, and the fee for Study Abroad insurance, if applicable.
  • In the term they are abroad: tuition and fees for the course(s) they are taking abroad, and the remaining program fee.

The program fees, Education Abroad fee and insurance fee will be billed by the Study Abroad office to the student's SBS account. Tuition and fees are applied to the student's account when the student has enrolled in the course(s), and billing for that term is open. Payment is made to the account as if the student is on campus.

Reciprocal Exchange Programs

Students are responsible for paying Texas Tech tuition and fees through their Student Business Services account. Out-of-pocket expenses may include meals and/or accommodations. Depending on the student's reciprocal exchange program, these expenses may be paid directly to the host institution or to a third party (e.g., a landlord or apartment) in the host country.

Students who are committed to participating in a reciprocal exchange program will be billed on the following timeline:

  • In the term before going abroad: the $200 Education Abroad fee.
  • In the term they are abroad: tuition and fees for the course(s) they are taking abroad; the fee for Study Abroad insurance, if applicable.

The Education Abroad fee and insurance fee will be billed by the Study Abroad office to the student's SBS account. Tuition and fees are applied to the student's account when the student has enrolled and billing for that term is open. Payment is made to the account as if the student is on campus.

Note: Business majors participating in a semester or academic year reciprocal exchange program are required by the Rawls College of Business Administration to enroll in an online Texas Tech course. This one-credit course carries tuition and fees that are billed directly to the student's Texas Tech Student Business Services account.

Affiliate Programs

Students are responsible for paying the affiliate provider directly for all costs associated with the affiliate's study abroad program. Fees may include tuition, excursions, visa assistance, accommodations, meals, and additional in-country support services. Accepted methods of payment (e.g., credit card, check, money transfer, etc.) will depend on the student's affiliate program. Questions about payment should be directed to the program provider.

Any financial aid or scholarships awarded to students studying abroad will be dispersed 10 days before the start the Texas Tech term. The Financial Aid Study Abroad Advisor can provide additional information and should be contacted directly with financial aid questions.

Students who are committed to participating in an affiliate program will be billed on the following timeline:

  • In the term before going abroad: the $200 Education Abroad fee.
  • In the term they are abroad: the fee for Study Abroad insurance, if applicable.

The Education Abroad fee and insurance fee will be billed by the Study Abroad office to the student's SBS account. Payment is made to the account as if the student is on campus. Payment for the program costs are billed by and paid to the program provider.

Note: Business majors participating in a semester or academic year affiliate program are required by the Rawls College of Business Administration to enroll in an online Texas Tech course. This one-credit course carries tuition and fees that are billed directly to the student's Texas Tech Student Business Services account.
