Application Process

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a Master of Science Degree in both Mathematics and Statistics, a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Mathematics, and a Graduate Certificate in Mathematics.

To apply, students should apply directly to the Graduate School for admission to Texas Tech University as a graduate student. Briefly, for all programs in Mathematics and Statistics, this includes submission of a completed application form, non-refundable application fee, and official transcripts for all previous college-level studies. In addition, the M.S. and Ph.D. programs require three letters of reference and GRE scores. International students must also submit proof of English proficiency and a bank statement that indicates sufficient funds to cover the student's education and living expenses. Submit these application materials directly to the Graduate School. See the Graduate School website for the most up-to-date instructions.

The department accepts applications for Fall admissions in the Certificate, M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. programs. We also accept applications for Summer admissions in the Graduate Certificate.

Applicants for the M.S. and Ph.D. programs will be considered for graduate teaching assistantships. Support is not guaranteed, but we typically have several available positions yearly. For full consideration, the department recommends that all application materials be completed by December 15th for Fall admissions. If you have any questions, contact the Graduate Advisor.
