Outline of the ADA Student Online Test Process

This process creates a duplicate test with extended time for the student(s) requiring additional accommodations and walks you through creating groups to help manage the students and tests. You will also use the Groups tool to manage which students see which test.

Condensed Process Steps:

  1. Create two groups and populate with their respective students
    • Group 1 (Non-ADA Students)
    • Group 2 (ADA Students)
  2. Copy the Test to create a second test for group 2 with extended time
  3. Use Adaptive Release to associate the groups with their respective tests

Expanded Process Steps:

Create two groups using the following instructions:

  1. On the Control Panel, expand the Groups and Users section.
  2. Select Groups.
  3. On the Groups page, select Create Single Group.
  4. Select Manual Enroll.
  5. On the Create Group page, type a Name and optional Description.
  6. Group 1 (Non-ADA Students)
  7. Group 2 (ADA Students)
  8. Select the Yes option to make the Group Available.
  9. Uncheck the tools under Tool Availability
  10. In the Membership section, select the students from the Items to Select box and click the right-pointing arrow to add the selected names to the Selected Items box.
  11. Click Submit.

Copy the Test to create a second test for group 2 with extended time:

  1. On the Control Panel, expand the Course Tools section
  2. Select Tests, Surveys, and Pools.
  3. On the Tests page, click on the action link and select Copy. This creates a duplicate of the test and gives it the same name plus “(1)” in the title.
  4. Deploy the test. To do that, go to the location where the original test was deployed. Mouse over the Assessments button. Select Test. Click on the name of the test to deploy in the “Add an Existing Test” field.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. From the Test Options page, make the change to the test timer (duration) to give the ADA student additional time. Verify that the other settings are correct.
  7. Click Submit.

Use Adaptive Release to associate the groups with their respective tests:

  1. Click on the action link for the ADA version of the test, and select Adaptive Release.
  2. In the Membership section, click on the name of the ADA group. Use the arrows to move the group to the Selected Items field.
  3. Note: Do NOT select a grade center column in the Grade section. Make sure that field indicates “None.”
  4. Click Submit.
