Rachel Hoover
Student Success Manager
Any day you have glitter on is a great day!
As the Student Success Manager, I work with a team of Student Success Specialists
and our campus partners to implement support and initiatives to advance student success.
Seeing students and staff members learn, grow, and reach their goals is the most inspiring
part of my work.
I have over 20 years of experience working in, developing, and managing programs for
student success, including academic recovery, academic coaching, supplemental instruction,
first-year experience, and workshops.
When I'm not at work, you can find me spending time with my favorite people. I also
love to make crafts, read, and play card games with my family.

My favorite Texas Tech memory.
One of my professors spent her entire Saturday helping me rework the literature review of my thesis so that I could get it done on time.
The best piece of advice I've ever been given...
Worrying is like a rocking chair; it gets you nowhere. (Thanks, Mom!)
The best thing I was involved in during my undergrad.
I worked in the Marsha Sharp Tutoring Center for the Atheltics Department. My experience
there is what got me started in academic support!
My biggest facepalm moment.
My facepalm moments pretty much happen on a daily basis, but if I have to choose, I would say the time my husband told me that his father owned an Angora goat that he could make a sweater out of it's hair for me. I told him I didn't want him to kill a goat for me.
My Academic Journey
When I first transferred to Texas Tech University, I started skipping classes. It snowballed until I wasn't attending any of my classes and had to withdraw that semester. I was very overwhelmed with life and hadn't made any connections on the campus. I worked two jobs during my time away from school and decided that I needed to go back to college and finish my degree!
I also changed my major about 3 times. I started out as Biology and discovered that labs really stressed me out. I was undecided for a while until I took a self-discovery course at South Plains College and found sociology.
My Background
First-Gen college student.
Took time off during degree.
Grew up in a rural area.
Worked while in college.
