Marup Hossain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Texas Tech University. His research focuses on agricultural and development economics, examining how smallholders respond to financial access, climate change, and market dynamics. Using a combination of econometric and machine-learning tools, Dr. Hossain addresses policy-relevant questions through quantitative analysis. He also conducts randomized control trials (RCTs) and ex-post impact assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of various interventions.
Before joining Texas Tech, Dr. Hossain was an Economist at the International Fund
for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome. He previously worked with the United
Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the International Food Policy Research Institute
(IFPRI), the World Bank, and BRAC. He holds a bachelors and masters degree in economics
from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a Ph.D. in applied economics from the
University of Florida.
Research Interests: Economic Development, Agricultural Policy, Rural Sustainability, Behavioral Economics,
Climate Change.
