Study Abroad in Africa
Every other year, AAEC students join cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point to learn about agricultural and economic development in Africa.
The students travel to select African countries to examine different farming technologies, economic development activities, and political/cultural development. Students visit US Embassies and receive information from Department of Commerce, State, and Agriculture representatives about in-country programs and activities. These are combined with site visits to farms, businesses, and government agencies to increase understanding of the local situation.
And, of course, we get to visit regional sites and experience safaris, camping, and internationally famous places like Victoria Falls. Our trip culminates with a visit to the United States African Command in Stuttgart, Germany, to learn about military and diplomatic issues in development in Africa, with a fun, but educational, relaxing trip to Munich, Germany, where we visit the Dachau concentration camp and sample local German cuisine.
