Enlisted Commissioning
Current enlisted Airmen and Guardians have several pathways to pursue a commission while completing their college education. The right option depends on your current military status, education, remaining degree requirements and commissioning goals.
Detachment 820 can help prospective cadets understand how Air Force ROTC fits into an enlisted commissioning plan. Applicants should also work closely with their chain of command and base education office to understand current program requirements and application procedures.
Enlisted Commissioning Programs
Enlisted commissioning options include several programs designed for Airmen and Guardians at different stages of their military careers and college education.
ASCP
Airman Scholarship & Commissioning Program
ASCP provides eligible enlisted members an opportunity to leave active duty, attend college full time and participate in Air Force ROTC while completing a bachelor's degree and working toward a commission.
SOAR
Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen to ROTC
SOAR provides selected enlisted members an opportunity to leave active duty and attend college as Air Force ROTC cadets while completing the requirements for a bachelor's degree and commission.
POC-ERP
Professional Officer Course-Early Release Program
POC-ERP is designed for eligible enlisted members who are closer to completing a bachelor's degree. Selected members leave active duty, attend college full time and complete the Professional Officer Course portion of Air Force ROTC.
SLECP
Senior Leader Enlisted Commissioning Program
SLECP provides selected enlisted members a pathway to complete their education and pursue a commission while remaining on active duty during the program.
NECP
Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program
NECP provides eligible enlisted members an opportunity to complete nursing education and prepare for commissioning into the Nurse Corps while remaining on active duty.
AFROTC-Based Programs
ASCP, SOAR and POC-ERP are directly connected to Air Force ROTC. Selected members transition from active-duty service to full-time college enrollment and participate in AFROTC while completing their degree and commissioning requirements.
ASCP & SOAR
Students selected for ASCP or SOAR complete their college degree while participating in Air Force ROTC. The amount of time required depends on the student's academic standing, remaining degree requirements and applicable program requirements.
POC-ERP
POC-ERP is intended for enlisted members with a shorter academic timeline remaining. Students considering this route should confirm that their remaining degree plan can accommodate the required AFROTC coursework and commissioning timeline.

Active-Duty Programs
SLECP and NECP differ from the AFROTC-based programs because selected members remain on active duty while completing their program requirements.
Senior Leader Enlisted Commissioning Program
SLECP is a competitive commissioning pathway for selected enlisted members. Eligibility, selection procedures and education requirements are determined by current Department of the Air Force guidance.
Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program
NECP is intended for eligible enlisted members pursuing a nursing degree and future service as commissioned nurses.
Students interested in NECP should coordinate their academic planning with their military leadership and the nursing program they plan to attend.
