Women in STEAM Awards: Dr. Raegan Higgins and Dr. Jerry Dwyer

THE WEST TEXAS ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE awarded its highest honors for 2014 to Professor Jerry Dwyer and Assistant Professor Raegan Higgins, both of the Department of Mathematics & Statistics. Women in STEAM Awards: Dr. Raegan Higgins and Dr. Jerry Dwyer

The association is part of TTU's Center for the Integration of STEM Education & Research (CISER). C.O.W. AWARD RECIPIENT JERRY DWYER was nominated by Levi Johnson, Senior Project Administrator, STEM Center for Outreach, Research & Education. "DR. DWYER EXEMPLIFIES WHAT IT MEANS TO BE a Champion of Women, and it was a pleasure to work with our nominating team to submit him for this recognition," Johnson said. "It has been inspiring to see the lengths to which he is willing to go in order to ensure that his female students and colleagues succeed–regularly sacrificing his time to lead study sessions at local coffee shops for young mothers or going out of his way to mentor young women faculty members. I hope his example serves to motivate further advancement of women in the STEM disciplines."

OWL AWARD RECIPIENT RAEGAN HIGGINS was nominated by Jessica Spott, Program Administrator, STEM Outreach. "DR. RAEGAN HIGGINS IS THE DEFINITION OF an Outstanding Woman Leader," Spott said. "She has exemplified work-life balance with two young children, a faculty member husband, and is going up for tenure next year. As a staff member, who is hoping to have a family, it's encouraging to see someone who is not afraid to back down from the hard work and lack of sleep involved to have both a successful family life and a successful career. She will continue to be an inspiration and a successful resource for female undergraduates, faculty and staff."
