31 October 2023. The Texas Tech University Department of History is mourning the loss of our colleague, Dr. Gary Forsythe, who recently passed away. Dr. Forsythe was a member of our department for over twenty years, wherein he shared his passion for ancient history with thousands of students. He had an extraordinary career, publishing nine books and many articles, and winning numerous awards and fellowships, including an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship and a two-year fellowship at the School of Historical Study at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.   • February 19: HGSO Presents: "American History M: Melanin Supremacy, Black and White Violence, and Spiritual Mastery" a lecture by J. Cecilia Cárdenas-Navia, PhD Candidate, History of Science and Medicine, Yale University. The event will take place in Room 40 of Holden Hall at 4 p.m.
  • February 16: African American History Month Lecture Series featuring guest speaker Harry Belafonte "My Life in Activism" - 7:00p.m. in the Allen Theater.
