The Online MA in History offers a flexible, convenient path to an advanced Texas Tech diploma from anywhere in the world. This master's degree focuses on providing a platform for developing critical analytical skills (reading, written, and oral) within a historical framework. You can complete this degree while maintaining your professional and family commitments.

Course Requirements

  Students must complete 30 hours of graduate work to receive the Master of Arts degree. 

 

  • HIST 5304: Approaches to History (3 credit hours; first semester offered after admission)
  • One history course from each of three (World, Europe, and U.S.) geographic areas of concentration (9 total credit hours)
  • History electives (12 total semester credit hours)
  • HIST 6301: Introduction to Historical Writing (3 credit hours; penultimate semester)
  • HIST 7310: Capstone Portfolio (3 credit hours; final semester)

 

Capstone Portfolio 

In lieu of writing a thesis, students will work with the Director of the Online MA and the MA Review Committee from within the Department of History to design and develop a three-part portfolio consisting of the following components: a capstone project, a graduate paper revision, and a reflection essay. Once a student completes their portfolio, they will present it in an online oral defense before the MA Review Committee.
