The Center for Financial Responsibility was established in 1995 within the Department of Financial Planning at Texas Tech University. Since then, the CFR has grown into a nationally recognized hub for financial outreach, community-engaged learning, and scholarly research — all united by a commitment to advancing financial well-being across communities.

Outreach
The CFR's Outreach branch connects financial knowledge to communities through the KEY program, CFR Certification, microcredentials, and prior learning assessment. These programs extend the reach of Texas Tech's financial planning expertise to professionals and the public alike.
Community Engaged Learning
Through financial coaching clinics and FPAcademy, the CFR creates hands-on learning opportunities that benefit both students and the communities they serve. These programs bridge classroom knowledge and real-world impact.
Engaged Scholarship
The CFR's Engaged Scholarship branch advances the profession through a research series, faculty outreach and engagement hub, archival resources, and funding opportunities for scholars working at the intersection of financial planning and community impact.
