General Information
Will every student have access to RaiderCanvas, even if they don't have a course in the new Learning Management System?
No, about 4,000 students will have a course in the new LMS. For Spring 2025, approximately 150 courses are being taught in RaiderCanvas. These instructors participated in an early access program. Only students enrolled in these courses will have access to RaiderCanvas in the spring. In summer, all students will have access, but instructors can choose between RaiderCanvas and Blackboard. By fall, all courses will transition to RaiderCanvas.
Why is the university switching to RaiderCanvas?
Texas Tech initiated a Request for Proposals in Fall 2023 due to the existing LMS contract nearing its end. Finalists included Blackboard Ultra, Brightspace, and Canvas. After feedback from faculty, staff, and pilot programs, as well as student preference, Canvas was selected. A 13-month migration plan is underway, with full transition by Fall 2025.
When will the transition be complete?
The transition will be fully implemented by Fall 2025. Until then, courses may use either Blackboard or RaiderCanvas.
What happens to Blackboard after the transition?
Access to Blackboard will end at the start of the Fall 2025 semester.
Access and Navigation
How do I log in to RaiderCanvas?
Visit https://texastech.instructure.com/ and use your eRaider credentials to log in.
How do I know if my course is in RaiderCanvas or Blackboard?
Check your email! Instructors will send information. When logging in, a pop-up notification will also remind you if your course is in RaiderCanvas for Spring 2025.
What should I do if I have courses on both Blackboard and RaiderCanvas?
Bookmark both the Blackboard and RaiderCanvas login pages. Regularly check both platforms for assignments, grades, and announcements.
Can I access RaiderCanvas on my phone?
Yes, download the Canvas Student App from the Apple App Store or Google Play. While most features are available, using a computer is recommended for exams and detailed assignments.
What browsers work best with RaiderCanvas?
Canvas supports the current and previous major releases of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari (Mac only). Chrome and Firefox are recommended for optimal performance.

Are there training resources for students to learn how to use Canvas?

Where can I find my course materials on RaiderCanvas?
Access the Dashboard and select your course. The course home page will display modules, the syllabus, and additional resources.
When will my course become available?
Courses will be accessible on the first day of classes (Wednesday, January 15).
How do I check my grades?
In your course, click the "Grades" link to view your grades.
How do I contact my instructor?
Use the RaiderCanvas inbox, located in the left-side navigation menu in your course.
How do I customize my profile?
In the global navigation, click "Account," then "Profile." Click "Edit" to update your name, contact methods, and personal links. Save changes by clicking "Save Profile."
How do I submit assignments?
Navigate to "Assignments" in the course menu, select the assignment, and upload your file. RaiderCanvas confirms successful on-time submissions with a confetti animation.
How do I make or reply to discussions?
Click "Discussions" in the course menu, select the discussion, and use the "Reply" button. Add your reply, media, or files, and click "Reply" to submit.
