Buffalo Hunters: Materials, Methods and Mooar

Retired Museum of Texas Tech University history curator, Henry B. Crawford provides an in-depth look at the technology and methodology that brought down the buffalo on the Western Plains during the 1870s and 1880s. Discuss camp life, firearms and ammunition used, skinning, meat and hide preparation, and transportation to markets. Among the items used to illustrate the life of a 19th-century commercial buffalo hunter will be a treasure of the Museum of Texas Tech University collections, the Sharps sporting rifle owned and used by buffalo hunter and businessman John Wesley Mooar.
