Overview

Condensed matter physics seeks to understand the classical and quantum phases of matter that emerge from the collective behavior of large numbers of particles. At Texas Tech, condensed matter research is a vibrant and integrated program spanning an extraordinary range of scales—from quantum processes governing nuclear-scale and nanoscale physics to macroscopic transport, critical phenomena, and emergent behavior. Our work encompasses topological and low-dimensional materials, quantum liquids, and engineered quantum platforms, with a focus on nonequilibrium dynamics, phase transitions, transport, and collective quantum phenomena. A departmental culture of close collaboration brings together experiment, theory, and computation, allowing new materials and measurement techniques to be developed alongside microscopic modeling, analytical theory, and large-scale simulation.
