Bilyana Petrova is an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University. She received her PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her BA in Economics, International Studies, and Latin American Studies from the University of Richmond. Prior to joining TTU, she was a postdoctoral scholar at the Max Weber Programme at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy and at the Stone Center for Socio-Economic Inequality at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

 

Petrova's research interests lie at the intersection of comparative and international political economy, with a focus on Europe and Latin America. Her work examines questions related to inequality, redistribution, and social policy. She is currently working on a book manuscript that examines the determinants of market income inequality in Latin America and Eastern Europe. A second book explores social policy reforms in the post-communist world. Her published work has appeared in the British Journal of Political Science, Review of International Political Economy, and Socio-Economic Review. She has extensive experience conducting fieldwork in Bulgaria, Chile, and Peru.
