The field of psychology is broad, containing many potential focuses.
At Texas Tech, primary focuses are broken out into Clinical Psychology and Counseling Psychology, and the experimental areas of Cognition & Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Factors, and Social Psychology.

Clinical Psychology

Clinical psychology focuses on understanding, preventing, and treating psychological distress and dysfunction.

Counseling Psychology

Counseling psychology focuses on working with people to better themselves, and understanding how this guidance is best achieved.

Cognition & Cognitive Neuroscience

Cognition explores mental processes such as perception, memory, attention, and thinking.
Cognitive Neuroscience makes connections between cognition and the brain.

Human Factors Psychology

Human factors psychology explores the way people interact with devices and equipment, to better design such tools.

Social Psychology

Social psychology explores the way people experience, interact with, and are affected by their social environments.
