Maggie J. Gilchrest assists Dr. Spott with STEM COREs day-to-day operations at Texas Tech University.
She mentors and supports tutors who engage in meaningful academic interactions with transfer students from Dallas College – El Centro, South Plains College, and Texas Southmost College. As a First-Generation Hispanic college student, Maggie is passionate about helping students from diverse backgrounds engage in undergraduate research and prepare for graduate school.
Maggie is an International Federation of Coaching (ICF) certified life coach, focused on facilitating the self-reflection, growth, and success of students. Facilitating campus knowledge of resources and academic development starts at different times for every student, and Maggie prides herself on being able to meet students where they are to aid in their development. She creates relationships that simultaneously encourage and empower STEM students.
Maggie is the current chair of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Coaching Community, a member of the Convocations Committee, and a former Staff Senate President.
In her spare time, Maggie enjoys hanging out with family, friends, and her three dogs, live music, watching sports, and reading.
