Student Conduct Process

The Office of Student Conduct administers the student conduct process when a Texas Tech University student is alleged to have violated the Code of Student Conduct. The process provides students an opportunity to understand and respond to concerns, review available information and participate in the resolution of their case.

Reporting a Concern

Student conduct concerns may be reported to Texas Tech through Raiders Report. Reports may be submitted by students, faculty, staff or other members of the university community.

A report should include as much relevant information as possible about the concern. Supporting information or documentation may also be included when available.

Submit a Student Conduct Report

Initial Review

When the Office of Student Conduct receives a report, staff review the available information and determine the appropriate next steps. Depending on the circumstances, the office may request additional information or contact individuals who may have relevant information about the reported incident.

A report does not by itself mean that a student has been found responsible for violating university policy.

Conduct Meeting

If the information indicates that a possible violation of the Code of Student Conduct should be addressed through the conduct process, the student may be contacted by the Office of Student Conduct and asked to participate in a meeting or hearing.

During the process, the student has an opportunity to learn about the allegations, review information related to the case and provide their own information or response. Students should carefully review communications from the Office of Student Conduct and follow any instructions or deadlines included in those communications.

The specific process may vary depending on the nature of the alleged conduct and the procedures applicable to the case.

Decisions & Standard of Evidence

Student conduct cases use the preponderance of the evidence standard when determining responsibility. Under this standard, a student may be found responsible when the available information indicates that it is more likely than not that a violation occurred.

Decisions are based on the information available through the conduct process and the applicable provisions of the Code of Student Conduct.

Sanctions

If a student is found responsible for violating the Code of Student Conduct, sanctions, conditions or restrictions may be assigned. Outcomes depend on the circumstances of the case and may consider factors such as the nature of the violation, its impact and relevant conduct history.

Sanctions may be educational or administrative and are intended to address the behavior, its impact and the student's responsibilities as a member of the Texas Tech community.

Students participating in the conduct process should review the Student Handbook and Code of Student Conduct for information about university procedures, student rights and responsibilities and available resolution or appeal processes.

Students are responsible for responding to university communications, participating in required meetings and complying with deadlines and requirements associated with the conduct process.
