Meet Izabelle

Hello! My name is Izabelle Stanford, but I often go by Izzy. I'm a transfer student from Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm a senior in the College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in ASL/ English Interpretation and minoring in Psychology. My hobbies range from reading to sports to live theatre, but I especially love spending time with friends. I'm an extroverted person and I love meeting new people, so you'll always find me talking to someone!

I've been fortunate to have a ton of amazing opportunities here at Tech! On campus, I'm involved in 2 different student organizations, Transfer Techsans and Signing Raiders. I was the President of both orgs during the Fall 21-Spring 22 semesters, but proudly handed off presidency to the next group of leaders for the upcoming year! I plan to be an active member of both during my last year at Texas Tech. Off campus, I'm very involved in Lubbock's Deaf community and I'm the student representative of a non-profit organization called the Caprock Society of Interpreters for the Deaf. My goal for my education is to complete a graduate degree in ASL, allowing me to be a college professor. I knew I wanted to teach from a very young age, but discovered I was interested in teaching ASL/interpreting only a few years ago. The great thing about being an educator is the ability to work outside the classroom, so when I'm not teaching students, I can be providing accessibility to the Deaf community. I've already begun the certification process to become an interpreter, so my dream is not too far away!
