Message From the Director

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the 31st annual Conference on the Advancement of Women here at Texas Tech. The theme of this year's program, Intersecting Gender and Sexuality, is a response to the many challenges that our society has been facing as women and men deal with changing expectations about sexuality. These issues range from the changing acceptance of gay marriage, concern about rape culture on campus and elsewhere and changing climate around reproductive justice. We have some distinguished, and at times provocative, speakers who will address a range of these issues. I hope you will be able to attend the luncheon and keynote address by Ms. Loretta Ross, who has a long and distinguished career fighting for reproductive justice for women of color. In the evening, young feminist, Laci Green, who is a widely followed video blogger, will speak about "taking down rape culture." Finally, on Saturday Ms. Pamelya Herndon, the Executive Director of the Southwest Women's Law Center, will speak on the economy and justice.

Also don't forget to check out the performances, including the Ordinary Wars dance performance and a performance of the Vagina Monologues in the evenings.

Best regards,

Charlotte Dunham
Director of Women's Studies
Associate Professor of Sociology
