TTU Press
Written by Julie Box
From the depths of darkness into the twilight, Robert Fink crafts his essays with a poet’s grace. “Twilight Innings” is a moving and emotional compilation of essays telling the stories of a West Texan’s life as he journeys through heartache, hope and much more.
In this book of short stories, published by Texas Tech University Press, Fink tells the story of his life in 24 of his most compelling essays. Fink writes about finding himself through experiences including the Vietnam War, baseball and his family.
Fink’s essays touch on themes that the common man can relate to such as his wife’s high school reunion, spending time with his family and coping with the deaths of friends.
Aa professor at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Fink has written poetry and essays for most of his life and is the author of several books of poetry. "Twilight Innings" is Fink’s first published compilation of essays.
Some of Fink’s essays in “Twilight Innings” have been previously published in the Cortland Review, Concho River Review, the Iowa Review, the Mississippi Review, River Teeth, the Texas Review, Texas Magazine and other journals.
In Ken Hammond’s review of the book, he says “Twilight Innings” takes you into the corners of Fink’s personal world, and according to Hammond, “it’s a trip worth making.”
