Message from the Faculty:

There are not a ton of options when deciding at which program to pursue an MFT Doctoral degree. Why would anyone choose Texas Tech University? At Texas Tech you'll be taught in the scientist-practitioner model. Basically, this means we recognize the important connection between research and our clinical practice. We have, as a core belief, that a good clinician is also a wise and confident consumer of research. Our students leave the program with solid research skills and the ability to apply research in clinical settings.

Many of our students leave the program with a number of peer-reviewed publications and even have experiences working on grants or other contracts for clinical services. This experience prepares them to compete well for academic jobs. Those who do not aspire to the academic ranks take this experience and become competent leaders and administrators in other mental healthcare settings.

Lubbock is great. There are not too many trees or pesky mountains to get in the way of seeing as far as your eyesight allows. We have well over 300 days of sunshine in any given year and temperate winters. In fact, very few people in Lubbock even own a snow shovel. The housing costs in Lubbock have also been very reasonable. Many of our students have found that it is less expensive to purchase a home than to rent an apartment.

The other benefit of coming to Tech for your MFT experience is that the faculty respect and care about one another. We actually like being with each other. We are devoted to seeing our students progress through the program and we stay in contact with them long after they graduate. Come and see for yourself the possibilities of pursuing your doctoral work at Texas Tech University.

Addictive Disorders & Recovery Studies

We enjoy a close relationship with the Texas Tech University Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery. Our students are Research Assistants and Teaching Assistants for CSAR faculty. Students interested in addiction issues have a unique opportunity to study an undergraduate population committed to dealing with their own addictions.
