Curriculum
Marriage and Family Therapy training at Texas Tech University is grounded in systems theory. Emphasis is on an intensive exposure to the broad range of family therapy theories and interventions. Students are expected to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches and be able to articulate their own theoretical approach to marriage and family therapy as well as to demonstrate their approach in their clinical work.
The curriculum in MFT includes study in the following areas:
- Basic theory and research in MFT and relationship processes
- Research methodology, including statistics, research design, and computer application
- Family studies, child development, adult development, personality theory, addiction processes, gender and ethnicity
- Major intervention strategies for couple and family relationships
- MFT research on therapy process and effectiveness of therapy techniques
- Extensive practicum and internship experiences
