Course Substitution Requirements

While every case is reviewed on an individual basis, the following criteria will be used as minimal requirements in consideration for course substitution requests:

Foreign Language

  1. Student must have documentation of a learning disability in the area of reading that was diagnosed or re-evaluated from their 9th grade year of high school or later. If the diagnosis of a learning disability specific to reading was completed before the 9th grade of high school, then the student must present documentation of a continuous need for services for the disability through either ARD Committee or Section 504 Committee reports. These reports should be from each of the three years in high school and make specific reference to the learning disability in reading.
  2. Student must have an accompanied diagnosis of an auditory processing disorder or statements of weaknesses of auditory processing.
  3. The department in which the student is enrolled does not have foreign language as a key core component to their degree plan requirement.

Mathematics

  1. Student must have a formal diagnosis of a learning disability in the area of mathematics that was diagnosed or re-evaluated from their 9th grade year of high school or later.
  2. The student must not have taken a pre-algebra, algebra, or higher level math course at any higher education institution and received a grade of "C" or higher.
  3. The department in which the student is enrolled does not have mathematics as a key core component to their degree plan requirement.

Physical Education

  1. Student must have written documentation from the treating physician on the medical condition that prevents them from participation in physical activity.
  2. The department in which the student is enrolled does not have physical education as a key core component to their degree plan requirement.
