The MAB program is designed to be completed in four semesters of full time study. A capstone of this program is a professional internship designed to apply program concepts in a professional setting.
Online and in-person courses cover topics like statistical analysis, finance, law, and market research.
The MAB program is offered fully online, allowing professionals who work in every sector of the food, agribusiness, and animal health industry to study on their own schedule. Many classes are also offered in-person.
One of the key elements of the MAB is the completion of a professional internship with a high quality organization. The internship is designed to apply program concepts in a professional setting, setting students up with real-world business literacy and long-term success.
For MAB students already in the workforce, the internship can be completed at their current job.
An accelerated B.S./MAB program allows qualified students who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Applied Economics or Animal and Food Science to work concurrently on their B.S. and MAB. Students in this program are able to take up to six hours of graduate coursework (two of four eligible courses) receiving credit toward both their undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The MAB program also offers a certificate program, in addition to the regular program of study.
This professional degree is intended for current students who are in their last year of their undergraduate program or business professionals who are looking to expand their career opportunities by receiving advanced training in business applications, statistics, and other quantitative skills.

"The main target is students or people who already have an undergraduate degree and want to get some quantitative training and some advanced business skills.
“I’d say someone who wants advanced quantitative skills and has an interest in agribusiness; not everyone necessarily goes into agribusiness when they are done. The College of Agriculture allows you to take lots of business classes as well; it's a good little merger.”
“In my class, we go through actual market research and compare the good and the bad. At the end of this coursework, you should be able to do the research yourself. You should be able to say that if someone wants to study a marketing topic, you can pick it up. It could be inventory control, it could be demand for a vaccine, it could be all kinds of things, but you are being equipped with some tools to do it now. And when someone puts down their market research report and says, ‘This is what we are supposed to do,' you can look at it and say, ‘Is your sample size big enough? Did you use the proper method to do that? How did you collect your sample?’ Before this program, most people do not even know the difference. Many people come into my course not knowing how to ask these questions, but when you have completed my class, you will.”
“The purpose of the internship is for you to take the skills you developed in your coursework and apply them to real world settings. You might look at a forecast market demand for insurance or evaluate different insurance products and see how that might expand your market. The big idea is that while you are on your internship, you take the skills you learn in the program and you integrate them into your professionalism.
“Internship projects should be something that you have worked with to really add some extra value. A lot of times, the information put together by the intern is very useful; often this is an opportunity for them to present to their boss’s boss or sometimes even the board of directors of the company they are working at, which is pretty fun for my students when that happens.”
“I think it is neat to be able to provide this kind of training so people can get this information wherever they are. Say that someone is located in Washington or internationally or even somewhere else in the massive state that is Texas, they don't have to leave their job and move to Lubbock to be a part of our program. They can stay where they live and we can still administer the program that way.
“Everybody who runs the program does it differently. Every class is different. A lot of them are asynchronous, where you look at the recording, you turn your assignments in, you read the paper, do the assignments.
“My class, you can do that if you need to. However, I actually have a class online. You can see my video online and we have a real-time class. We have real-time discussions just like you would for an in-person course. If my class, for example, is at one o’clock and a student can't be at lecture because they have to work, they can watch the recording of the discussion and they can still do the assignments. I think they gain a lot more about the subject by doing it live and interacting, but they have that option. I record all my lectuers for that purpose.”
