Reanne De Souza

In a recent interview, Reanne De Souza, a Fall 2023 graduate from Texas Tech University's College of Arts & Sciences, candidly discussed her academic journey and the profound impact her experiences have had on her personal growth. Having previously lived in California and other Texas cities, Reanne now considers Lubbock, TX, her true home. Pursuing a degree in microbiology with a minor in chemistry, she made the transition from South Plains College to Texas Tech University, drawn by the university's inviting atmosphere and unique opportunities. 
 
Reanne successfully navigated the challenges  of adapting to a new environment, fully embracing the diverse perspectives and people that enriched her student experience at Texas Tech University. Beyond her academic pursuits, Reanne took on the role of a College of Arts & Sciences student ambassador, finding this position to be empowering. She valued the growth, mentorship, and community engagement it provided, highlighting the motivational impact of being surrounded by dedicated peers. 
 
In addition to her role as an ambassador,Reanne actively engaged in undergraduate research with Dr. Amanda Brown's Lab and the TrUE Scholars Program. She acknowledged the influence of mentors like Dr. Brown and Shiva Aghdam of Texas Tech University, as well as Professor Etheredge of South Plains College. Recognizing their pivotal roles in her academic and personal development. Driven by her ambition to become a physician, Reanne appreciated the dedication of Texas Tech University professors in advancing discoveries in Biological Sciences. 

 
Expressing gratitude, she said, "I'd like to thank my family for being my foundation and consistently supporting me in reaching my highest potential. I'd also like to express appreciation to everyone who has taught and mentored me along my student journey." 
 
While sharing her aspirations for medical school, Reanne fondly reminisced about her most cherished moments at Texas Tech University, particularly the friendships cultivated and the beloved tradition of Carol of Lights. Offering advice to future students, she emphasized the significance of time management, effective study skills, self-care, and an appreciation for the college journey. 
 
Reanne's experiences stand as a testament to the transformative opportunities and experiences provided by Texas Tech University. Armed with knowledge, skills, and the Red Raider spirit, she looks forward to carrying these assets into the next chapter of her life.
