Math Grad Student Aces MSNBC Interview

Saba Nafees on MSNBC

SABA NAFEES, A TTU UNDERGRAD ALUMNA and graduate student in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, recently was interviewed on television by MSNBC's José Díaz-Balart. Nafees discussed the reluctance of Asian-American students to participate in a federal immigration program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Nafees, a native of Pakistan, is a DACA student and active in the organization.

SINCE HER ARRIVAL AT TEXAS TECH as an undergraduate, Nafees has played an increasing role in representing the University to a wider audience. The MSNBC interview is among the most recent in an impressive list of achievements by the College of Arts & Sciences graduate student.

HER DACA STUDENT STATUS, along with her talk at TEDx in 2014, led to her selection as an E3! Ambassador to the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI), Nafees said in an interview last fall with TexasTechToday. As an E3! Ambassador, Nafees is one of three ambassadors responsible for Region VI, which covers Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. She is one of only 32 to be chosen nationwide for 2014-2015.
