The Texas Tech College of Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce the college's 2023 Distinguished Alumni awardees.

This year we will recognize and honor Brigadier General Clinton K. Murray and Dr. Mark W. Scioli. Brig. Gen. Murray is a 1991 biology graduate and is now the director of Defense Health Region Agency in Europe. Dr. Scioli graduated from the College of Arts & Sciences in 1978 with a degree in zoology, while later obtaining his MD at the TTU School of Medicine in 1982. He is now the owner and a physician at The Center for Orthopedic Surgery in Lubbock.

The college will also introduce the first recipient of the Rising Innovator award. The purpose of the Rising Innovator award is to recognize an alumnus who has graduated within the last 10-15 years, who are making great strides in improving our society and building a legacy that will honor our college and university. Our inaugural Rising Innovator awardee is Dr. Saba Nafees. Dr. Nafees is a 2014 mathematics major who later secured both her masters and doctorate in biology at TTU in 2020. She is a two-time Grammy winner and is currently working as a data scientist specializing in bioinformatics.

The College of Arts & Sciences is set to honor these individuals at the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Reception on March 23 at the National Ranching Heritage Center. The reception will take place at 6 p.m. The event is free to attend if you would like to join us for a night of celebration, but please secure your spot at asttu.com/DA
