Internships in History

History majors and minors can apply to participate in HIST 4396: Internships in History. This 3-credit course is offered every spring semester, and places students to work on site with a variety of campus and community partners, gaining valuable skills and learning about career pathways after graduation, from publishing and heritage sites to museum and archival work! Current campus and community partners include: the Texas Tech University Press, the National Ranching Heritage Museum, Vietnam Center & Sam Johnson Archive, the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, the Museum at Texas Tech and Lubbock Landmark Lake.

Additionally, the Department of History has partnered with the Texas Tech College to Careers Program, which is offering a limited number of funded spots for our History interns. Interns must work 180 hours across the semester—an average of twelve hours a week.

Additional details:

  • Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Priority is given to juniors and/or seniors
  • HIST 3392: Introduction to Public History is a suggested pre-requisite

HIST 4396 is currently full for Spring 2026, but applications for Spring 2027 will be due October 1, 2026. Stayed tuned for more application details!
