Undergraduate Scholarships

The following scholarship awards are available to undergraduate students in the Department of History. Students generally apply for these scholarships in the spring semester, and the awards are handed out at the Annual History Scholarship & Awards Reception held at the end of the spring semester. If you have any questions about the scholarships, please contact one of the department's advisors.

Lawrence L. and Louise Graves Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate history students in any field of study. The recipient must have at least a 3.0 GPA and financial need may be considered. Please include a statement explaining your interests/goals in history.

Robert A. Hayes Latin American History Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate history students with an interest in Latin American history. Selection is based on both academic achievement and financial need.

Oscar A. Kinchen Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate history students, preferably with an interest in British or Canadian history. Selection is based on academic achievement (at least a 3.0 GPA) and financial need.

W.B. and Mozelle Rushing History Scholarship

For a deserving undergraduate or graduate student in history. Selection is based on academic achievement. Please include a statement explaining your interests/goals in history.

David and Winifred Vigness Memorial Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate students in American or Latin American history with special consideration given to students in Mexican, Southwestern, or Texas history. Selection is based on academic achievement - at least a 3.0 GPA. Please provide a statement explaining your interests/goals in history and a brief statement describing your interest in American, Latin American, Mexican, Southwestern or Texas History.

Ethan A. Schmidt Memorial Scholarship

For any TTU undergraduate student with at least a 3.0 GPA who has taken a minimum of one history course at Texas Tech and can convey appreciation and understanding of the importance of history in a 200-word essay.

Rachel E. Hudson European Studies Scholarship

An overall GPA of 3.25 and a minimum GPA in history course study of 3.5 is required for applicants. The scholarship will go to an undergraduate or graduate student studying European and/or Imperial History. The money should be used for tuition, books, or cost incurred for research (copies, travel, fees, etc.). Please provide a statement about your interests/goals in history and attach a statement about your interest in European/Imperial History. This scholarship also requires that a faculty member familiar with your areas of interest submit a letter in support of your application.

James and Phyllis Pipkin Undergraduate Scholarship

For undergraduate student(s) majoring in History. Scholarship awardee(s) should be chosen based on merit and have outstanding work ethic.

 

G.A. Dupras Scholarship in Military History

To support students studying the history of war and society in the College of Arts and Sciences. For graduate students, preference will be given toward those actively studying military history for their dissertation or thesis.

The Michael W. Briggs Excellence in History Scholarship

The Michael W. Briggs Excellence in History Scholarship will provide financial support to non-traditional graduate or undergraduate students within the College of Arts and Sciences, History Department. In the event of a lack of non-traditional student qualifier, the scholarship should be awarded to the most deserving student.
