Blackboard FAQ

Why is the Curriculum Center for Family and Consumer Sciences changing learning management platforms again?

As with many small businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic, Motivis has closed. In researching the best solution to providing Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) curriculum, the Curriculum Center for Family and Consumer Sciences (CCFCS) has decided to partner with Blackboard.

This partnership has allowed the CCFCS to act on FCS teacher feedback received over the past year:

  • Ease of use: Teachers didn't like having to scroll so far down to access different units within a topic.
  • Color: Teachers wanted to "see" which CCFCS curriculum they were in by a color change.
  • Stability: Blackboard is one of the biggest learning management system providers globally. Plus, the CCFCS now has the support of Texas Tech University's IT department!

Will Blackboard be difficult to navigate?

No! Motivis so closely resembles Blackboard that learning to use it will be easy.

Here is an example of 1823 Child Development as it would appear in Blackboard:

Will I have to scroll through units like I had to in Motivis?

No again! Blackboard uses folders, making reaching your curriculum easier!

Is the curriculum content staying the same?

Yes – but with improvements!

We've used Blackboard's formatting capabilities to segment the different parts of the instructional strategies.

The CCFCS is stabilizing links and adding 20 new rubrics to the curriculum.

We are also paying attention to accessibility! As we move our curriculum, we are checking to make sure our resources are accessible as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1973.

I don't want to change my username and password – will Blackboard make me?

Nope! We'd like you to continue using your official school email as your username, but your password is up to you.

In fact, Blackboard is recognized as a premier Learning Management System (LMS), meaning school districts have already whitelisted it, making functions like "Forgot Password" quick and easy.

Will the price increase with this new system?

Absolutely not. Our pricing will remain the same!

Membership to your first course will be $200 and each additional course is $150. If you purchase eight courses, the price then drops to $100 each.

Can I use the Blackboard curriculum in my virtual classroom?

Of course! The curriculum is compatible with virtual learning systems such as Canvas or Google Classroom. In fact, we have a free webinar showing you how to use these systems and more on our www.ccfcs.org website.

You can find this webinar and additional online resources here: https://www.depts.ttu.edu/hs/ccfcs/online-resources.php.

You can also easily copy the lesson materials into the local Learning Management System.

And, because there are many strategies per topic, you can choose the strategies that work best in an LMS with little to no tweaking for your system.
