Biography

Dr. Yanzhang Ma is a professor of mechanical engineering at Texas Tech University. He has been a faculty member at TTU since 2002. He primarily teaches courses in material science as well as high pressure science and technology. His research focuses on materials at extremes, such as high pressure and high temperature phase transformation, performance of nanomaterials and minerals under pressure and shear. He developed techniques in experimental generation of ultra-high pressure-temperature and shear as well as establishes analytical methods in synchrotron X-ray diffraction, optical spectroscopy, as electrical measurements. Dr. Ma has published over a hundred journal papers based on his scientific discoveries. Dr. Ma has been directing the High-Pressure Materials Laboratory at Texas Tech University. While spending most of his professional career as a researcher and as an educator, Dr. Ma also has extensive involvement in industry, with focus on the synthesis of superhard and other novel materials.
