Work conducted at the Materials Performance and Failure Analysis Laboratory is in support of research, teaching, and service activities in the following areas:

- High Strain-Rate and High Heating-Rate Deformation Characterization
- Tribology (Measurement/Analysis of Friction and Slip Resistance of Walkway Surfaces)
- Hail Impact Damage Assessment on Roofing Materials and Aerospace Components
- Finite Element Modeling of Large Deformations and Explosive Loading
