Biography

Camden Smith is a doctoral student, graduate part-time instructor, and research assistant in the College of Media & Communication, specializing in mediated intimate interpersonal communication.

Her primary areas of specialization are interpersonal and mediated communication. More specifically, she is interested in communication surrounding sexual activity or within mediated sexual settings that demonstrate how individuals construct and communicate their online experiences. She aims to discover how mediated intimate interpersonal communication about identity, sex, sexuality, and gender in the media can be seen through a feminist lens.

Research Methods

Using interpretive and quantitative methodologies, She has gathered rich data to unearth intimate stories, which can be supplemented through numerical data. Her specialty is thematic analysis, which she uses to organize, interpret, and report surveys, interviews, focus groups, and oral history data. She also has training in quantitative methodologies and analyses, specifically in the context of survey research.
