Darek is intentional about supporting student employees in their jobs and also as students. He goes beyond asking, "How are your classes going?" and instead, engages with his student employees to understand their lives both inside and outside of the classroom. He ensures that his attention is given to them holistically, rather than simply focusing on their achievements as employees. With Darek's innovative and creative approach to building relationships, his student employees had the highest GPA during Spring 2023. Although Darek's residence hall complex experienced staff turnover, he maintained consistency and provided continuous support, which developed a strong sense of team pride. A student employee recently said that, Darek “cannot simply be defined as a boss, because he is a leader, a friend, and an innovative thinker. Throughout my year of working with him, he has worked harder than anyone, cared for the residents and staff like family, and found new ways to improve the complex and Texas Tech for the better. Everyone I know boasts of his kindness, selflessness, and loyalty.” Darek's energy and passion for creating a positive and supportive environment for our students shines through, inspires others, and continues to create a positive impact on those he serves. He is a staff member who others look up to, and he has accomplished a lot in a short time. There is no doubt that Darek will continue to make a positive impact on the department and the campus community. Please join me in congratulating Darek Hollis.
