Josie has been with Texas Tech for almost 17 years and has been with the Office of Research and Innovation for 11 years. Throughout her tenure, she has significantly impacted the division through her actions. Josie is extremely knowledgeable about research budgeting, accounting, and policies, and assists individuals across the university in these areas. One of Josie's goals was to provide the Vice President of Research with an overview of investments, not only the Principal Investigators who were being supported through the division, but also for the centers, institutes and departments that reported up to the Vice President. In December 2021, Josie and the Vice President started holding budget hearings for the centers and institutes as well as departments, which proved to be very beneficial. These meetings provided time to meet with the directors about their fiscal forecasts for the upcoming year. This also provided an opportunity for the directors to share how their areas had grown in the past year. Josie is committed and readily available to all staff and faculty across the university as needed. This is extremely important due to the abundance of confusion when it comes to start-up funds for new faculty and department administrators. She has worked hard to establish relationships across campus and serves as a resource for whatever is needed.
