Karlissa has been with Texas Tech University since 2009, having completed her Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics as a Red Raider. She previously worked for Texas Tech as an instructor of French and joined the PPHC advising team to help students explore their academic options when pursuing a pre-health degree. She enjoys helping students plan and achieve their goals and encouraging students to engage with their campus and community. Outside of the office, Karlissa enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, 4-wheeling, and hanging out with her dogs. She looks forward to meeting new students and helping them become Red Raiders.

Susanna Dickson | Senior Academic Advisor | susanna.dickson@ttu.edu
Advises Students with Last Names Md-R


Susanna began her higher education career at South Plains College, where she graduated with an associate's in science. She then transferred to Texas Tech University in 2009, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In 2013, Susanna was accepted into the Master of Science in Healthcare Administration at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), which she completed in 2016. Susanna is currently finishing a Community Health Worker certificate via TTUHSC Rural Health and the West Texas Area Health Education Center while also pursuing a second bachelor's degree in the College of Education back on the Main Campus. Susanna's volunteer experiences include the TTUHSC Department of Psychiatry and Texas Tech's Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Community Engagement. A consistent and avid life-long learner with a love for education, Susanna thrives when encouraging and supporting others in their educational pursuits and is proud to call herself a Red Raider. Her role as a Pre-Professional Health Careers advisor also allows Susanna to serve as the campus advisor for both Pre-Pharmacy and Pre-Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences student organizations. In her spare time Susanna is often studying, but she also enjoys reading, traveling, and devoting time to her family.

Rachel was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, and has a proud family tradition here at Texas Tech University. In 2015, she graduated from Tech's School of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and then went on to teach Art at Lubbock High School. She is a strong supporter of education and promoting creative and critical thinking to help develop learners into active and meaningful members of their communities. Rachel joined the team at PPHC following her passion for supporting students as they pursue success in all of their goals. She spends her spare time reading, playing tennis, and creating works of art.

Karin was born in Rochester, New York, then moved to Ontario, Canada, where she began her career in healthcare, working as a medical office manager for 29 years. She also served as President of the Medical Secretaries Association for many of those years before returning to the U.S., when she moved to Lubbock in 2006. Before joining the PPHC team, Karin has had experience with local Lubbock physicians, as a Lead Counselor in Medical Research, and then at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center with Rural and Community Health.

Amy has over a decade of experience working at the university as well as secondary school level. A native of Lubbock, Amy chose to pursue her studies in other areas of the country, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Management at Tulane University. Upon graduation, Amy moved to Boston where she worked at various universities and obtained her Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration at Boston College.

Having served as a former Director of Admission at a private school in the Boston area, Amy truly enjoys getting to know people from all walks of life and counseling them toward a successful future. Most recently, she worked as an Events and Logistics Manager in the Los Angeles area, managing hundreds of events for a private school. Amy likes to work with students who are inquisitive and who enjoy the self-discovery process. In her free time, Amy enjoys attending concerts, art exhibits, and traveling with her husband. She will also never turn down the opportunity to eat Mexican food!


Ryan Scheckel | Assistant Director | ryan.scheckel@ttu.edu


Ryan has been in academic advising since 2002, working with students from the exploratory to the declared, first generation to legacy, and from fine arts to pre-professional health. He also serves in leadership roles at both the state and [inter]national levels and his professional interests include advising history, theory and philosophy; leadership theory; and the intersections between advising and higher education's larger purpose. A graduate of Texas Tech, Ryan's academic background includes studies in Human Development, Public Administration, Leadership, and Higher Education Administration. He is also a HUGE Star Wars nerd!
