Virtual Advising Options

In the Fall semester of 2021, Pre-Professional Health Careers (PPHC) returned to in-person advising appointments as the preferred option. Students are welcome to wear face coverings and socially distance when attending in-person appointments, and advisors may ask students to do so while in their offices.

If you are not feeling well, please do not attend an in-person advising appointment, and please make use of your available healtcare options.

PPHC will continue to offer virtual advising appointments, as needed. Students can select Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU) or online as the "location" when scheduling your appointment via Raider Success Hub.

Virtual Advising Appointments via BBCU

1: A few minutes before your scheduled appointment time, click the link provided by your advisor (go.ttu.edu/advising-pphc) to "check-in."

2: As you join the PPHC Advising Waiting Room in BBCU, please use your first and last name (if prompted), and give permission to access your microphone at minimum.

3: Wait for your advisor to move you into their virtual office. Please remember: this is a shared space.

Virtual Advising Appointment Recommendations:

While you can join a virtual advising appointment via a smartphone, we recommend a laptop or desktop computer or tablet if at all possible.

Make sure you are in a confidential and distraction-free environment.

Make sure that you have a stable internet connection available for your appointment.

Some browsers require access to your microphone to play audio, even if you don't plan to speak. You will also have the option of making your video available.

We have found the Google Chrome browser to be the most consistent user experience compared to other browsers. Microsoft Edge has been the least consistent.

In the bottom-right corner when you sign in, click the purple tab, then click the gear symbol to find the "Audio and Video Settings" to enable your microphone and video.

Close unnecessary windows or tabs, especially those streaming media and silence any outside audio, as these can disrupt the appointment connection.

General Advising Tips

Check your @ttu.edu email for updates before and after your appointment.

Treat all advising appointments like an in-person appointment:

> Be on-time (if you are more than 10 minutes late, you will be asked to reschedule)

> Be prepared with questions and note-taking materials

> Be appropriately dressed

Important Notices

If others will be present during your virtual advising appointment, please inform your advisor and ensure that all in attendance are properly documented as approved for academic records release on your current FERPA Waiver Form.

Students should schedule all advising appointments with their assigned PPHC Advisor via Raider Success Hub. The only difference is that students will select a preferred "location" when scheduling.

The PPHC Team is keenly aware of how fast things can change. Please follow CDC Guidelines for your health and well-being, check your @ttu.edu email regularly, and reach out for assistance whenever it is needed.
