"Global Weirding: Climate, Politics, Religion" PBS Digital Series

GLobalWeirding

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe is featured in a new PBS digital series called, "Global Weirding: Climate, Politics, and Religion." Global Weirding is a short series of videos talking about controversial climate issues. We partnered with Texas Tech Public Media team to make this series happen. In this series Dr. Hayhoe explores the arguments, science, politics, religion, culture, and psychology at the intersection of politics and climate change. If you have questions such as why climate change is causing the weather we see today?, Why do scientist say that climate change is caused by humans instead of natural cycles? or, How do we even know this climate change things is even real? Dr. Hayhoe tackles these questions and issues head on.

New episodes of Global Weirding our released every other Wednesday at 10AM CT. Be sure to keep updated on the episodes by going to GlobalWeirdingSeries.com to watch and subscribe. Science By The Glass

Our next Science By The Glass (SBTG) event will be on April 11th at 6PM at Back 40 Grill where Natasja Van Gestel will be presenting "Tails from Antarctica: Effects of Warming on Antarctic Life." SBTG events feature food, drink, and informal presentation by CSC faculty that bring together members of the community to discuss interesting and sometimes controversial topics related to science, climate, and society. Our March SBTG event featured Jason Hodges giving a presentation titled, "Rain Gardens on the Llano Estacado." Our February SBTG event featured Melanie Tatum giving a presentation entitled, "Trash to Cash: Tech's Recycling Turns to Scholarships." Our SBTG event in December featured Dr. Ken Baake giving a presentation entitled, Oil-Is it still God's given gift? Dr. Baake also performed songs about oil on his guitar.

CSC Monthly Seminars

Our next seminar will be on April 4th at Noon in the Experimental Sciences Building, room 120. April's topic is on spirituality and the speakers are Katharine Hayhoe, Ken Baake, and Kevin Young. The CSC seminars have moved from a presentation style to an interactive panel style. Three expert panelists will be speaking and answering questions over a specific topic in relevance to climate science. March's topic was on innovation and sustainability and the speakers were Eric Crouch, Lon Mirll, Robert Forbis, and Carey Hewett. February's topic was on education and the speakers were Patricia Solís, Jerry Dwyer, Jaclyn Cañas-Carrell, and Heather Greenhalgh-Spencer. Refreshments provided!
