Kristi D. Osorio Assistant Professor of Practice - Literature, Creative Writing, First-Year Writing

Kristi D. Osorio is the author of the memoir The Sound of Burning: A Mother, a Daughter, a Murder (University of Georgia Press, 2026). She is the winner of the 2023 Indiana Review Creative Nonfiction Prize selected by Camonghne Felix and the Sonora Review "Mercy" Contest in Nonfiction selected by Maggie Nelson. Kristi holds a Master of Fine Arts in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University and a Master of Library and Information Sciences with an emphasis in Archival Studies from the University of Alabama. Her work has appeared in The Rumpus, Teachers & Writers Magazine, New Delta Review, and elsewhere. Her writing and teaching have been supported by fellowships from Columbia University, Wesleyan University, Vermont Studio Center, and the Kenyon Review. She has served communities affected by the criminal justice system through writing, teaching, and advocacy at Rikers Island, Columbia School of Social Work's Beyond the Bars, and the Vera Institute of Justice.
