Undergraduate Scholarships Department of English

Every year, the English Department awards between $50,000 and $80,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. Some of these scholarships are awarded on competitive basis, and some are awarded on competitive/need-based basis. These scholarships were made possible by the generous donations by friends and alumni of the Department.

Undergraduate students, whether online or onsite, who major in English or in Writing, Design, and Technical Communication are eligible for English department scholarships.

• For Incoming First-Time in College Students, refer to Scholarship Resources for Incoming Students. The priority scholarship application deadline is December 1. Applications received after this date will be considered in the order they are received.
• For Incoming Transfer Students, refer to Scholarship Resources for Incoming Transfer Students.
• For Current Students, refer to Scholarship Resources for Returning Students. English Department Scholarships require you to apply through ScholarshipUniverse. The application opens annually in October and closes February 1st. To be eligible for English Department scholarships, complete the University Scholarship Application and request a letter of recommendation from an English faculty member. Contact your faculty recommender before the end of the fall semester, so they can upload a letter of recommendation on your behalf as part of the application process.

Undergraduate students are also encouraged to use ScholarshipUniverse to search for external scholarships and to consult the External Scholarships resource provided by the Scholarships office.
