We offer a variety of general and merit-based scholarship programs to help ease the cost of your education at Texas Tech. Earning a scholarship starts as you enter your senior year in high school. To increase your chances of an academic award, please apply to Texas Tech as soon as possible. You are encouraged to seek external scholarships which can supplement your award. Test Optional Scholarships

Students will designate if they would like to be test optional for both admission and scholarships on the application. Once an admission decision has been made, the test-optional designation cannot be changed.

General Scholarships

Students are considered for general scholarships with their application for admission to Texas Tech University. To increase your chances of an academic award, please apply for admission as soon as possible. Use the ApplyTexas or Common App application for admission and scholarship consideration.

The priority scholarship application deadline is December 1. Applications received after this date will be considered in the order they are received.

Presidential Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships are awarded to entering first-time freshmen and transfer students who show exceptional academic ability. Annual award amounts pay one-half toward fall and one-half toward spring terms. Merit awards are guaranteed to freshmen admitted by April 1st for fall entry. Transfer students may qualify if admitted by July 31st for fall entry or January 5th for spring entry. If you are a non-resident awarded a Presidential Scholarship, you will also qualify to pay in-state tuition. Learn more here.

ACT composite score; SAT reflects evidence-based reading and writing, and math; the highest section scores from multiple tests on the ACT and SAT will be used to maximize score
These awards are for the 2024-2025 academic year and are subject to change without notice. No additional applicaiton is required. Student must enroll in a minimum of 12 hours for fall & spring terms.

Renewal Requirements:

  • Awards of $7,000-$9,000: 3.5 GPA & 30 TTU hours
  • Awards of $7,000-$9,000: 3.5 GPA & 30 TTU hours
  • Awards of $7,000-$9,000: 3.5 GPA & 30 TTU hours

Awarding will begin in October to qualifying admitted students.

National Merit Finalists 

Qualifying students that designate Texas Tech University as their first choice institution are eligible to receive 100% of federally approved cost of attendance including tuition, fees, room, board, books, transportation and a personal/miscellaneous allowance. Learn more here. 


External Scholarships

There are billions of dollars of external scholarship money available to students of all qualifications, abilities, and interests. These external scholarships may be provided by private donors, foundations, businesses and many other sources outside of Texas Tech University.
