Scholarships
For Incoming Freshmen
We offer a variety of general and merit-based scholarship programs to help ease the cost of your education at Texas Tech. Earning a scholarship starts as you enter your senior year in high school. To increase your chances of an academic award, please apply to Texas Tech as soon as possible. You are encouraged to seek external scholarships which can supplement your award. Test Optional Scholarships While students may select test optional for admission purposes, students may submit test scores for scholarship consideration. Students who apply test-optional will be evaluated holistically for merit scholarships. Students who originally designated to apply test-optional for scholarships may email scholarships@ttu.edu to request their test scores to be considered. Students are able to make this request and submit scores until May 1 of their senior year to qualify for merit scholarships. After that, merit scholarships are based on availability of funding. |
General Scholarships
Students are considered for general scholarships with their application for admission to Texas Tech University. To increase your chances of an academic award, please apply for admission as soon as possible. Use the ApplyTexas, Common App, or Coalition application for admission and scholarship consideration.
The priority scholarship application deadline is December 1. Applications received
after this date will be considered in the order they are received.
Presidential Merit Scholarships

Presidential Merit Scholarships are awarded to entering first-time freshmen who show exceptional academic ability. Annual award amounts pay one-half toward fall and one-half toward spring terms. If you are a non-resident awarded a Presidential Scholarship, you will also qualify to pay in-state tuition. All merit awards are guaranteed for students admitted by May 1; admission after this date is limited only by the availability of these scholarships. TTU Costa Rica Students are not eligible for scholarships.
National Merit Finalists
Qualifying students that designate Texas Tech University as their first choice institution are eligible to receive 100% of federally approved cost of attendance including tuition, fees, room, board, books, transportation and a personal/miscellaneous allowance. Learn more here.
External Scholarships
There are billions of dollars of external scholarship money available to students of all qualifications, abilities, and interests. These external scholarships may be provided by private donors, foundations, businesses and many other sources outside of Texas Tech University.
