Frequently Asked Questions


  • Create an account on www.applytexas.org and begin your application for admission to Texas Tech University.
  • Select the appropriate application type and semester of entry.
  • Proceed through the application for admission including the additional scholarship questions.
  • Submit your application! Once submitted, you cannot edit your application.
  • For need-based scholarship consideration, please complete one of the following by the priority date: December 1 for fall entry students, November 15 for spring entry students.

  • Entering Freshmen: December 1
  • Entering Transfers: March 1 for entering fall students / November 15 for entering spring students
  • The Texas Tech University Scholarship Application on ApplyTexas gets you considered for need-based and non-need-based scholarships offered by university, college and departmental scholarship committees.



  • Go to www.scholarships.ttu.edu
  • Click on How to Apply for Scholarships
  • Select the Continuing Students button
  • Fill out the University Scholarship Application.
  • Submit online by February 1
  • To be considered for need-based scholarships, fill out your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, by the February 15 preference date
  • Check with your department or college for any additional major-specific scholarships
  • Merit scholarships are available to students who qualify and do not require application. Learn more about merit scholarships for freshmen here and merit scholarships for transfer students here.



  • No, you do not need to complete the FAFSA and you will still be considered for merit based scholarships and specific major scholarships from your department that do not require the FAFSA. However, by completing the FAFSA, you do increase your chances to be considered for a wider pool of scholarships.



  • Check with your High School Counselor
  • Check with your local Civic Organizations
  • Consider employers, not-for-profit organizations and religious institutions
  • Follow us on Facebook and Twitter, where we regularly post scholarship opportunities.



  • Scholarships do not have to come solely from TTU, they can also come from outside resources such as churches, civic organizations, local schools, etc. We recommend that these are sent to our office so we can apply them directly to your student account.
  • Report external scholarships here.



  • Scholarship offer letters are sent after application deadlines (March-May for fall terms and December for spring entrants).
  • Be sure to accept your scholarship by the deadline specified in your offer letter. Learn how to accept your scholarship here.
