Andrew Castilleja is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Texas Tech University's
Department of Landscape Architecture (DoLA) and a Ph.D. student in Land-Use Planning,
Management, and Design. Andrew joined DoLA after completing his Master research on
the Oil and Gas Related Caliche Land Cover in the Llano Estacado Region: Opportunities
for a Resilient Future in the summer of 2021. His research proposes that the re-use
of caliche can help the adaptive cycle of the region remain above a critical threshold
and aid in the transition to alternative land uses and covers key to a resilient future.
Andrew plans to advance his research on caliche re-use to include impacts of ecosystem
restoration and phytoremediation approaches on mitigation of ecological impacts from
the oil and gas industry. He is also investigating the potential land use of produced
water from oil and gas wells.
Andrew holds both a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture
from Texas Tech University.
