Dr. Kishor Mehta receives the distinction of Emeritus Faculty.

This past week, Dr. Kishor Mehta was introduced as Texas Tech Universitys newest Emeritus Faculty member by TTU President, Dr. Lawrence Schovanec, to the Board of Regents.
At Texas Tech, a faculty member may be appointed to Emeritus status after long (at
least 10 years) and distinguished service to the university.
Mehta has accomplished the unthinkable during his TTU tenure. A few of his many accomplishments
include developing criteria for above-ground tornado shelters, developing wind load
standards for building design, and establishing the Wind Science and Engineering doctoral
program. The first and only multidisciplinary program in the country that students
are educated across multiple disciplines such as engineering, atmospheric science,
wind energy, and economics.
One of his most well-known accomplishments was leading the development of the EF-scale
used to assess tornado intensity (and adopted by the National Weather Service in 2007).

In his 60-year tenure, Mehta has impacted the education of countless students and
has positively changed many different disciplines in the scientific community.
